Welcome to the 2016 Lone Star Film Festival in Sundance Square - Fort Worth, Texas

Amin Matalqa

Jordanian-American writer/director Amin Matalqa has made a career combining drama and comedy to bridge the cultural gaps between East and West through film. His first feature "Captain Abu Raed" won the Sundance Film Festival World Cinema Audience Award in 2008 along with 27 international festival prizes, and became Jordan's first Oscar entry for Best Foreign Language Film. His second feature, Disney's inspirational soccer drama, "The United" brought together a cast of players from across the Middle East and North Africa, and was the first film produced by a major Hollywood studio for the Arab world. For his third feature, "Strangely In Love", Amin adapted Dostoevsky's novella White Nights into a whimsical Chaplinesque comedy set in modern-day Los Angeles.

Amin has an MFA in Directing from the American Film Institute (2007). He was born in Jordan and immigrated to the US when he was 13. He grew up in a family of pilots in Columbus, Ohio; got his Business undergrad degree from Ohio State University; and led a five-year career in technology before moving to Los Angeles with his dogs, Cello and Oboe in 2003, where he continues to live today with his wife Claire.
